Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., Family Medicine Specialist, Agiology Subspecialist, is the director of the primary healthcare center “Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka and an assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka. Dr. Todorović is married, and she is the mother of two children.

Nevena Todorović (daughter of Kojo Dobrijević) was born on April 1, 1973, in Sanski Most. The primary education she attended in Lušci Palanka and the secondary Medical School she completed in Banja Luka. In the year 2000, Dr. Todorović graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Banja Luka. She has been employed at Banja Luka’s “Dom zdravlja” public health center since 2000. As a doctor of medicine, she worked for four years in the Department of Health Protection for Children and Youth before completing her specialization in family medicine in November 2007. In the year 2008, she was appointed to the position of head of the Family Medicine Service for nine months. From October 2008 to June 2019, Dr. Todorović worked as assistant director for medical affairs. From June through September 2019, Dr. Todorović held the position of acting director of the primary healthcare center “Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka. In September 2019, she was appointed to the position of director of the “Dom zdravlja” primary healthcare center in Banja Luka. Following the conclusion of the first mandate, Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., was reappointed as director of the primary healthcare center “Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka for a term of 4 years in September 2023.

In November 2012, she defended her master’s thesis on the topic “The Quality of Life of Patients with Allergic Rhinitis Treated by a Family Doctor” at the University of Banja Luka’s Faculty of Medicine. By the decision of the Teaching Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine in Banja Luka in 2006, Dr. Todorović was chosen as a teaching fellow in the Family Medicine course. She was appointed senior teaching fellow at the University of Banja Luka’s Faculty of Medicine in 2014 and was re-appointed senior teaching fellow in 2019 for the narrow scientific field of Family Medicine.

In 2015, the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Belgrade approved her preparation of a doctoral dissertation on the topic of “The Assessment of Health Literacy of the Adult Population Registered with Family Medicine Doctors in the Republic of Srpska”, and in July 2019, she defended her doctoral dissertation and obtained the title of Doctor of Medical Sciences. Dr. Todorović was appointed assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Banja Luka, in June 2020. Among the first doctors, she enrolled in a subspecialization in angiology, defended her subspecialty thesis and subspecialty exam in 2024, and earned the title of family medicine specialist, angiology subspecialist.

Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., is a significant figure in the field of primary health care in Banja Luka and Republic of Srpska, with many years of abundant experience in management that lasts more than a decade and a half. She became recognizable for her expertise, dedication to patients, and leadership and work organization skills.

As director, she has so far demonstrated outstanding skills in the management and organization of the “Dom zdravlja” primary healthcare center in Banja Luka. Through her efforts, the institution experienced significant development and improvement in providing accessible and quality health services to the residents of Banja Luka and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Todorović places particular emphasis on the continuous training of healthcare professionals while encouraging them to further education, specialization, and sub-specialization. This dedication to the personal and professional development of employees contributes to the generation of highly qualified and professional healthcare personnel.

Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., is the recipient of the Hippocrates Award, a lifetime achievement award granted to a doctor of medicine for outstanding results achieved throughout many years of work.

In 2013, the Chamber of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska awarded Dr. Todorović the Charter for the Organization of the Health Service. The award demonstrated the value of dedicated and successful work in the field of primary health care.

By leading the largest primary level healthcare institution in the Republic of Srpska, Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., through her generous dedication and prompt decisions regarding the work organization of the primary healthcare center “Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka during the “Covid-19” pandemic, ensured all the organizational departments of the primary healthcare center “Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka provided the exceedingly successful and continuous delivery of healthcare services for citizens.

The Association of Family Physicians of the Republic of Srpska honored her in 2020 with a Certificate of Recognition for her contribution to the successful management of the Republic of Srpska’s largest healthcare organization at the primary level of care, the primary healthcare center “Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka, during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the affirmation of the tenets and principles of family medicine in its functioning.

In 2023, the City Assembly of Banja Luka presented Dr. Todorović with the “Golden Coat of Arms of the City of Banja Luka” award for her exceptional contribution to the development of the city, fostering relations with other cities, achieving top results and successes with an accent on exceptional merit and contribution in organizing, implementing, and providing medical assistance and saving human lives at the primary level of health care in the city of Banja Luka, as well as any other forms of support and the heroic efforts in the fight against the “Covid-19” pandemic.

Dr. Todorović is the author and co-author of professional books and has published several publications in international journals and anthologies.

She actively engaged in the performance of the “Leonardo” and “Assessment” courses in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which represent the education of educators in family medicine and were designed by the EURACT Council. From 2007 to 2010, she was a presenter in the Program of Additional Education (PAT—Program of Additional Training) in family medicine for doctors and nurses/technicians.

As part of the Health Sector Strengthening Project, she has been involved in numerous projects implemented by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska. She participated as an educator in the education of managers of primary healthcare institutions on the topic “Organizational Management in Health Institutions”. She has attended numerous national and international professional events and has had various publications published in international periodicals and anthologies.

Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., is a member of numerous professional associations in the field of science and medicine.

Since 2006, Dr. Todorović has been a member of the European Academy of Family Medicine Teachers (EURACT, European Academy of Family Medicine Teachers). She has also been a member of the World Association of Family Medicine Doctors (WONCA, World Family Doctors Caring for People), the Chamber of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska, the Association of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska, and an associate member of the Association of Teachers of General/Family Medicine (DNOOM), the Republic of Croatia.

As an active member of the Chamber of Medical Doctors of the Republic of Srpska, she was appointed as a member of the Commission for Determining the Prices of Health Services and Contracting them with the Health Insurance Fund of the Republic of Srpska, as well as a member of the Commission for Determining the Plan of Networks of Health Institutions.

Through her involvement in various associations of general interest, Dr. Todorović is also actively engaged in the community. She is actively engaged in numerous health campaigns, educational events, and projects aimed at improving the health of the local population.

“Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka becomes a modernly equipped institution, recognizable and reliable for all the health needs of the residents, owing to her leadership and expertise. During her current mandate, in addition to investing in infrastructure in the sense of building new facilities for family medicine clinics and expanding the network of school dental clinics, old medical vehicles were replaced with new vehicles with complete medical equipment, and the vehicle fleet of the institution was renewed with vehicles that serve various needs of medical organizational units. Moreover, the equipping and modernization of organizational units continued, with the establishment of a completely new, digitized diagnostic center in the field of radiological and ultrasound diagnostics, and the complete automation of the work process in laboratory diagnostics, utilizing the most current devices, was carried out.

For the first time, family medicine clinics have been equipped with ultrasound devices, as has the Emergency Medical Care Unit with Educational Center. Furthermore, education in ultrasound diagnostics for family medicine specialists and emergency medicine specialists has been provided.

At the “Dom zdravlja” primary healthcare center in Banja Luka, she implemented numerous projects, of which the most distinctive are the project for the prevention and early detection of malignant diseases and the determination of risk factors for mass non-communicable diseases, which has been taking place under the slogan “For your own good” since 2019, and “Schools for pregnant women and parenthood” from 2023, as extremely important for the health of all citizens of the City of Banja Luka, which will be implemented in the following period as well.

As director of the primary healthcare center “Dom zdravlja” in Banja Luka, she established several new organizational units throughout her term of office.

In order to provide free preventive examinations on a regular and targeted basis, she founded the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, which was the first organization of this kind in the country.

Through the establishment of the Community Health Care Department, home health care services for patients were provided.

Through the establishment of the Scientific Research Center and the Projects Department, Dr. Todorović initiated activities for participation in various projects and scientific and professional research.

In addition to the previously mentioned organizational units, she founded a new organizational unit, the Center for Mother and Child, Early Growth and Development, all with the objective of protecting particularly vulnerable population categories: children, mothers, and expecting women.

Through her long-term leadership effort, Dr. Todorović affirms the core values of family medicine and primary health care. Her objective is to maintain the Banja Luka Health Center’s position as a leading institution providing quality health care and to remain a respected institution within the community.

Nevena Todorović, M.D., Ph.D., Asst. Prof., has been elected to two consecutive terms as councilor in the City Assembly of Banja Luka since 2016.
